Takeru Kusanagi (草薙 タケル Kusanagi Takeru) is the main male protagonist of the series and the hapless leader of the 35th Test Platoon, more infamously known as, "Small Fry Platoon". He is contracted to Lapis Lazuili.

When he was younger, Takeru had an incredibly short fuse and was prone to getting in fights over anything; mostly when people mocked his swordsmanship. After being beaten by Ouka in a match in his second year of middle school; he began to soothe his anger; becoming tranquil, and not to be as prone to going berserk as he did when he was younger. However, he returns to his old personality very fast if someone mocks him or his sword or if he becomes excited over something.
Takeru genuinely cares for his comrades more than himself and he was criticized by them for "taking half of their burden" while not allowing them to carry any of his. Takeru's sole motivation revolves around his sister and is known to get emotional when she is brought up.

Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon (対魔導学園35試験小隊 Tai-Madō Gakuen 35 Shiken Shōtai?) is a Japanese light novel series written by Tōki Yanagimi and illustrated by Kippu. Fujimi Shobo have published eleven volumes since May 19, 2012 under their Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation with art by Sutarō Hanao was serialized in Fujimi Shobo's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Dragon Age between 2012 and 2014, and was collected in three tankōbon volumes. A second manga adaptation by Yohei Yasumura began serialization in Media Factory's seinen manga magazine Monthly Comic Alive from January 2015. An anime television series adaptation by Silver Link has been announced.
The school action fantasy is set in a world where people with magic powers are close to being wiped out. Just as the balance of power and military might had once shifted from swords to sorcery, it shifts once again to guns. Takeru Kusanagi goes to "AntiMagic Academy," a training facility for Inquisitors of Herectics who crack down on the dwindling threat posed by magic users.
However, Takeru cannot use guns at all and can only fight with a sword. As a result, he is relegated to the 35th Test Platoon, the motley "small fry platoon" for poor students. One day, Ouka Ootori, the ultra-elite pistol master who already has her qualifications for witch-hunts, joins the platoon.
