Yūichirō Hyakuya 「百夜 優一郎, Hyakuya Yūichirō」is the main protagonist of the Owari no Seraph series. He is a member of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army and Shinoa Hīragi's squad in the Moon Demon Company. He, along with Mikaela Hyakuya, possesses the "Seraph" gene, which is relevant to the forbidden taboo and the focal point of the story, "Seraph of the End."

He is brave, fearless and somewhat reckless, which was shown when he attacked a Horseman while ignoring orders. It is noted that this wasn't the first time. Yū is often called an idiot by those who know him. He is a very narrow-minded person, whose only goal is to annihilate all vampires because of what they did to his "family," and he will overcome any type of challenge in order to accomplish it. He swore to exterminate all vampires for killing Mika Despite this, he has a soft spot and worries about his friends first and his goals second.

Seraph of the End (Japanese: 終わりのセラフ Hepburn: Owari no Serafu?) (also known as Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign) is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written by Takaya Kagami and illustrated by Yamato Yamamoto with storyboards by Daisuke Furuya. It is published by Shueisha on Jump SQ and in English by Viz Media on Weekly Shonen Jump. The series is set in a world where a virus has ravaged the global populace and leaving only children under the age of thirteen untouched, leaving the appearances of vampires. A young man, Yūichirō "Yu" Hyakuya, sets to kill the vampires after one kills almost all the members from his orphanage.
An anime adaptation by Wit Studio was announced on August 28, 2014. The first part of the anime premiered in Japan on April 4, 2015 and ended on June 20, 2015. The second part of the anime began airing on October 10, 2015. A series of light novels focused on Yu's superior, Guren Ichinose, has been written by Kagami and iIllustrated by Yamamoto.
In 2012, the world allegedly comes to an end at the hands of a "human-made" virus, ravaging the global populace and leaving only children under the age of thirteen untouched. It is at this time that vampires emerge from the recesses of the earth, likely followed by age-old horrors of the dark thought only to be myth. The vampires sweep the earth and claim it in a single violent stroke, subjugating the remnants of humanity and leading them beneath the surface to safety. This "protection" comes at the price of donating blood to their captors. At the age of twelve, Yūichirō and his friend and fellow orphan Mikaela plotted to escape along with the children in Hyakuya Orphanage. However, this resulted in their deaths and Mikaela sacrifices himself in order for Yūichirō to escape and be saved by members of the Moon Demon Company, an extermination unit of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. Four years later, Yūichirō dedicates his life to destroy vampires and seek revenge against them for murdering his "family".
