Amagiri Ayato (天霧 綾斗) is the male protagonist of Gakusen Toshi Asterisk. Ayato's main objective behind entering Seidoukan Academy is to find a purpose in life, though later the latter changes to fighting for Julis.

Ayato is an innocent boy, often ending up in awkward situations. He is shy but polite to a fault, as well as a bit naive. However, he tries to do the right thing. He is strong and well trained, being able to hold his own against an enraged Julis on his first day in Asterisk.

The Asterisk War: The Academy City on the Water (学戦都市アスタリスク Gakusen Toshi Asutarisuku?, lit. "Academy Battle City Asterisk"), is a Japanese light novel series written by Yuu Miyazaki and illustrated by Okiura. Media Factory has published 8 volumes since September 2012 under their MF Bunko J imprint. A manga adaptation with art by Ningen began serialization in Media Factory's seinen manga magazine Monthly Comic Alive from January 2013. It has been collected in two tankōbon volumes. An anime television series adaptation by A-1 Pictures began airing on October 3, 2015.[1] The first half of the anime television series adaptation airs from October to December 2015 and has been licensed by Aniplex of America in North America. The second half will begin airing in April 2016.
In the wake of a extinction level event known as the Ember Tears Meteor Shower, traditional governments around the world fell and many people born after this event discovered they were to tap into reserves of 'prana,' giving them superhuman abilities or even the ability to use magic. These people are known as the Genestella of the "Starpulse Generation." One such person, Amagiri Ayato has come to the Academy City on water, "Rikka," otherwise known as 'Asterisk' to attend the Seidokan Academy (and to possibly find out what happened to his sister).
